Paris Human Rights Film Festival, France 2011
" This is an award for a special film, a special way of dealing with the " Israel" subject through an ancient cult. The strong story of belonging to a community. This film is well done and beautiful. We liked the obvious human connection that emerges between the director and the protagonists he is filming. "
Jury statement.

The Samaritans, a tiny religious sect, are dying out. But they still maintain extremely harsh rules against assimilation: if you leave the fold, you and your family are as good as dead. Israeli actress Sophie Tzedaka is one such woman. One by one, she and her three sisters became "Jews" and were excommunicated by their 700-person community. So was their father. “Lone Samaritan” is a touching father-daughter journey that transcends all beliefs. It explores universal issues of faith and modernity, the role of women in religion, and the individual’s right to forge an independent identity—especially when that means violating a tradition you still hold dear.

Issues of Identity, Family and Tradition
By AMY KRONISH
I just viewed this unique and compelling film which premiered at the Haifa Film Festival during Succot. The film is about Sophie Tzedakah, an actress and TV personality, whose life is filled with contradictions. Sophie, born in 1975 to a Samaritan family living in Holon, has cut off her ties with the Samaritan community and become a Jewish Israeli.

The Lone Samaritan
by Tim Pylypiuk
"A solitary man crosses the body of earth in a delicate swagger, privy to how it's interconnected structures work. Senses highly attuned and attracted to strife that threatens the well being of average citizens. Wandering into the fire, the outsider is stoic and unassuming until his weapon is unsheathed. With swift timing, he strikes down the antagonists fanning the flames with their incendiary nature. When chaos settles, the citizens thank him, revere him. But he walks on, uniting his 'self with the landscape until the next strife calls. No name, no consensus on his past, no clear cut origin, only a man and the continuing saga of his good deeds."
